The Story

Snow, the Canadian dancehall artist born Darrin O'Brien in Toronto, had one of the most unlikely number-one hits of the 1990s. "Informer", with its rapid-fire toasting and instantly quotable hook, spent seven weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1993 and reached number one in nearly a dozen countries.

It was a genuine phenomenon, and then it was, more or less, the end of the story at that scale. None of Snow's follow-ups landed with anything like the same force. On streaming the gap is stark: "Informer" sits near 160 million plays, while his next most-streamed track has well under five million.

That makes Snow one of the cleaner one-hit wonders in our data. Divide the hit by the runner-up and the ratio lands around 35, far beyond our 5.0 line.

There is a coda, though. In 2019, more than 25 years later, Daddy Yankee built the global smash "Con Calma" around "Informer" and brought Snow back for the feature. It racked up billions of views and introduced the hook to a new generation, proof that a single song, if it is the right one, can carry an artist for decades.
