The Story

Lasgo are a Belgian dance act who rode the early-2000s wave of melodic vocal trance to one enduring international hit. "Something", released around 2001, paired a soaring, wistful vocal with bright, propulsive trance production, and it became a club and chart success across Europe and beyond, a defining sound of its moment on the dancefloor.

The act released more music in the same uplifting style and had further success at home, but nothing travelled as far as "Something", which remains their signature track.

On streaming, "Something" sits near 185 million plays, while their next most-streamed track, "Alone", trails at around 21 million. That sends the ratio above 8, past our 5.0 line.

By our measure Lasgo are a certified one-hit wonder, in the classic vocal-trance mould. Theirs is a familiar pattern for the genre: a single, emotionally charged dance track with an unforgettable vocal hook that captured a season on the floor so completely that it eclipsed everything else they made, and on streams it still stands well ahead of the rest of their catalogue. Years later, its yearning melody still sends a jolt of early-2000s nostalgia through anyone who danced to it the first time around.
