Icona Pop are a Swedish pop duo, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, and their signature song arrived with a shout. "I Love It", written by Charli XCX and featuring her vocals, became a defiant 2012 anthem, all crashing synths and the unforgettable line about not caring. It crossed over from the clubs to the global charts and soundtracked the year.
Unlike some one-hit wonders, Icona Pop did not simply vanish. They kept releasing singles, with tracks like "All Night" finding real audiences, they remained a fixture on dance and pop bills, and they returned to the spotlight years later through high-profile collaborations.
Even so, "I Love It" operates on another level. It sits near 1.3 billion plays, while their next most-streamed track trails around 169 million. That puts the ratio above 7, comfortably past our 5.0 line.
By our measure Icona Pop are a certified one-hit wonder. It is a useful reminder that the label does not require a one-and-done career. A duo can keep working steadily for years and still have a single song that so outshines the rest that, on the numbers, it stands almost alone.
