The Story

Bishop Briggs is a British-American singer, born to Scottish parents and raised partly in Asia, with a big, gospel-tinged voice that powered one stomping breakthrough. "River", released in 2016, is a dramatic, foot-stamping alt-pop song, and it became her signature, a fixture of film and television syncs that introduced her to a wide audience.

She has released further well-regarded music and built a devoted following, but nothing has matched the reach of that first single, and the rest of her catalogue sits behind it.

On streaming, "River" sits near 699 million plays, while her next most-streamed track, "White Flag", trails at around 101 million. That puts the ratio above 6, past our 5.0 line.

By our measure Bishop Briggs is a certified one-hit wonder, with the caveat that she remains an active artist with a real catalogue. Hers is a familiar alt-pop story: a powerhouse debut single, lifted by syncs and its sheer vocal force, that connected so widely it has stayed comfortably ahead of everything she has released since. That stomping, full-throated chorus is still the first thing most listeners associate with her name.
